This is my week for grief I guess Abiword crashed and took out several hours of work on the ezine so instead of having everything wrapped up before 1 AM it's 4:30 AM and I'm just getting my part of the personal news written. When I posted the ezine (from Freelists.org) one of the bounced addresses was mine. Yep, my own email address and I don't even have email filtering enabled on my account, because I can't find any way to enable or disable it in my control panel. Filtering? What filtering? I don't know nothin' about no stinkin' filtering. Argh!
When my copy of NTI CD Maker Gold, that came with my DVDROM/CD-RW drive, quit working, on my Windows 2000 Pro machine after a visit to Windows Update and I couldn't fix it, I wanted to buy a copy of Nero, because I've heard so much about it, and discovered that they have more flavors than Baskin Robbins and how-the-heck am I supposed to know which one I need? I went looking for a freeware alternative and found a really good one called the Ultimate CD/DVD Burner (at the bottom of
this page) but I also found another application, which called itself "freeware". Here's a screenshot of the EULA (End Users Licensing Agreement) this software wanted me to accept, check this out:

Can you believe this? Can you say "Malware"? I deleted this puppy PDQ (Pretty Darn Quick).
I've used the Ultimate CD/DVD Burner several times now and it's worked like a champ. They say it's "intuitive" and "User Friendly" but I can only agree with that in a qualified manner. If you've ever used CD burning software then the Ultimate CD/DVD Burner won't be hard to figure out but it's got no help files and no instructions or tutorials on the website. If you've never used CD burning software, or used it only very little, you may be completely stumped by this software (In which case, let me know and I'll try to help you with it). That being said, it works very nicely and I've so far been able to figure out how to do everything I needed to do. It's a stand alone executable, so you don't have to deal with an installation routine but that means you have to know how to unzip it to a folder in your program files and then create a shortcut for the desktop and/or Start Menu. In fairness, I should add that, for all of that, it's more user-friendly than the built-in CD burning capability in XP. The host website is covered with ads and you've got to scroll to the bottom of the page (and look close) to find the download link but the
Ultimate CD/DVD Burner is a reliable software app.

I just love
mourning doves, for about a week. Every year, I wait for signs of spring, the forsythia blooms, the red bud trees, tiny fern fiddleheads and the sound of mourning doves. For a few days, they sound so sweet; then they sound kind of loud-and monotonous. How big is their territory? Doesn't it sound like we have rather a lot of them? Do they ever shut up?

As usual, Texas had a little weather surprise for us. The day before Easter we had rain, sleet and snow. On Easter morning there was a little over an inch of snow on the ground in Central Texas. Very strange, very cool.
Happy Easter
