About the web of silence
My wife Lisa and I review dozens of webpages every week. Most of the time we keep our speakers turned off but we sometimes listen to internet radio stations while we work. Midi files, which are by far the most commonly embedded sound files used on the web, almost always have a much higher sound output level than the internet radio stations so when we open a page that has an embedded midi file we're subjected to an incredibly rude shock as our speakers suddenly blare out some invariably insipid melody which clashes horribly with the internet radio station. On February 5th, 2006 I mentioned that we ought to make a webpage announcing just how much we dislike embedded sound files. On February 6th she handed me a floppy with the official "Web of Silence" button images (which she'd just then finished creating) on it. Sometime between one and two o'clock on the morning of February 7th, I uploaded the "Web of peaceful silence" page, this page, and added some button images to our promotpourri page. One never knows what sort of response to expect from a hair-brained idea like this but we hope that some of you get a chuckle out of it.
